Marley) To Premiere In Kingston, Jamaica In FREE Public Screening
I suppose it’s only right that Marley, the “definitive” documentary on the life of reggae superstar Bob Marley, will make its non-festival general release world premiere at Emancipation Park, in Kingston, Jamaica, on Thursday,April 19 (a day before Magnolia Pictures will release it in theaters and VOD here in the USA), in a screening event that’s FREE and open to the public.
Showing as part of the Marley family’s contribution to Jamaica’s 50th anniversary Independence celebration, the Marleys (exec producers of the film, allowing use of images and footage from their personal archives for the first time) are expecting a record turnout for the event; audiences can expect to see interviews with family members, friends, lovers and musicians, concert footage, rare recordings, and much more in this comprehensive 2 1/2 hour birth to death documentary.
Reasons why this is not a Bob Marley Quote:
- This quote is in Standard American English. Bob Marley spoke Jamaican Standard English and Jamaican patois. He did not ever modify his speech patterns for American or British interviewers.
- This quote does not correspond with any other thing Marley wrote, sang, said, or did in his life.
- There is no Marley love song that echoes any of the cheesy sentiments of this quote. His love songs focussed almost exclusively on spiritual and physical connections.
- In no interview did Marley ever offer advice on love for teenage girls. Particularly bad advice like this. I mean, read it - it’s crap advice. It actually sounds like it was written by a spineless dweeb who thinks women owe him something because he’s “nice”.
- Marley loved and had children by many women during his life. This quote does not correspond with that reality.
- Marley grew up in an environment that prized strong masculinity. The idea that he would lecture a woman not to “hurt” a man does not accord with this. He certainly would not advise a woman to yell at her man.
- I have been unable to locate a source for this quote that dates from beyond early 2010. If Marley said this, there should be sources for this quote from before 2010. He died in 1981 and the earliest source for this quote is from 2010?
- None of the sources for this quote are reputable: quote sites, tumblr pages, facebook pages, and other amateur pages that certainly do not check facts.
- This was mentioned before, but this is just stupid advice. Would the man who wrote love songs that were firmly rooted in the reality of poverty, the man who offered his single bed and reminisced about sharing cornmeal porridge with Rita really write something this bad?

Bob’s Land Rover to be restored
After 25 years at 56 Hope Road, St Andrew, Bob Marley’s Land Rover - which he drove all over the Corporate Area and to rural Jamaica - hit the road for Montego Bay, St James, yesterday afternoon.
It did not leave the Bob Marley Museum under its own power, as what was reputedly the late reggae singer’s favourite vehicle has been taken to local Land Rover dealer ATL’s Montego Bay offices to be assessed ahead of restoration.
When it is finished, the museum and Bob Marley Foundation’s general manager, Jacqueline Lynch-Stewart, said the 1976 Land Rover will be put back on display at 56 Hope Road.
“It has been at the museum since it opened,” Lynch-Stewart said. “It is always at the front.
After having been exhibited in the open air under a covering but no sides for a quarter century, “over the years it has naturally deteriorated”.
“We made contact with them (ATL) to see if it could be restored. They then contacted the headquarters in London, so this discussion has been going on for some time,” Lynch-Stewart said. Next for the Land Rover, she said, is “To pull it down, assess what is required and take it from there. They don’t know what they will find.”
He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn’t going to quote poetry, he’s not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don’t hurt him, don’t change him, and don’t expect for more than he can give. Don’t analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he’s not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you.
